| Denise Rivard |
Health & Safety Officer
|
Denise is the Health & Safety Officer for Local 1587. She utilizes over 20 years of experience and training to guide her primary role; overseeing the workers’ Health & Safety
Committee Representatives; assisting them in their representation roles; and, ensuring compliance with the Health & Safety Act.
The Health & Safety Committee Representatives,
found on the linked pages above, are your first union contact when dealing with workplace health and safety issues. They are committed to improving health and safety conditions
in the workplace. They identify potential health and safety problems and bring them to the employer's attention.
Health & Safety Committees are necessary to provide greater
protection against workplace injury and illness. Committees often involve people from all levels of an organization. This co-operative involvement ensures that everything
possible is done to eliminate health and safety hazards. The Committee is an advisory body that helps to stimulate awareness of safety issues, recognizes workplace risks and
makes recommendations to eliminate these risks. Committees hold regular meetings and conduct regular workplace inspections.
